OUR TUITION STRUCTURE
The Canberra Art Workshop’score business is convening daily Art Groups covering the full range of visual artistic expression and media. Our Art Groups are subject, or medium, specific and are run by volunteer convenors. The Groups include printmaking, life drawing, portraiture, general and experimental painting. A wide variety of mediums are used by participants and two Groups focus on the mediums of
watercolour and pastels. Our groups operate weekly over four terms per year, following the ACT school year. However, some continue through the school holidays. Beginners are welcome to join, although no tutoring is offered.
If you would like to join an Art Group, please contact the convenor to make sure that places are available.
Art Group participants must be financial members of CAW.
There is an additional cost of $30 per term for each participant to cover studio rental. Additional model fees apply where relevant (to be paid in cash to Convenors).
Our studio also doubles as a teaching space with Tutored Classes. Our classes provide the building blocks for participants at various skill levels to develop their art practice. On offer currently are:
ExpressiveArt with Rick Cochrane;
Classical Drawing and Painting with Evan Williams;
Fundamentals Plus with Hugo Toro; and Watercolour Lettering with Tanis Hearn (a one-off evening class)
Throughout the term participants in all courses will be learning about the basic elements of art, principles of design, genres, techniques and the importance of drawing.
Participants of CAW’s Tutored Classes do not have to be a financial member of CAW, but members do receive a significant discount. Various prices apply.
CAW hosts a stimulating and comprehensive program of Weekend Workshops tutored by some of Australia’s most exciting artists, who range from experimenters in new art practices to Archibald Prize finalists. All workshop participants benefit from their new art concepts. We aim to foster inventiveness and creativity in a range of subject and/or medium-specific workshops. The atmosphere is always supportive and friendly. Workshops include composition, contemporary expressive art, printmaking, abstract art, life drawing, landscape and many more. Participants will have fun with mediums including oil and acrylic, collage, ink
and coloured pencil, charcoal and watercolour.
Participants of CAW’s (Tutored) Weekend Workshops do not have to be a financial member of CAW, but members do receive a significant discount. Various prices apply.
